Over the course of the Terry Fox long weekend people across Winnipeg were all sharing their common experiences. No it wasn’t about global warming. From River Heights to Saint Boniface the common denominator of discussion was how people are seeing crime every day or hearing about it from their family or neighbors every day. From shoplifting to bike theft to being beaten up at bus stops. With confidence in public safety ebbing away, Marty Gold remembers an idea that former NDP speaker George Hickes agreed would help, and wonders if candidates in 2023 should be asked to support it.
